Fates before joining 1st Polish Armored Division:
Before World War II Aleksander Borsuk had joined the Officers’ School for those who were underaged.
He served in the September 1939 Campaign and later with the Independent Podhale Brigade and took part in the Battle for Narvik from May 7-25, 1940. After the battle he returned to France and escaped to the unoccupied section of France (Vichy) and then crossed the Pyrenees into Spain where he was arrested by the Spanish police and put in the Miranda de Ebro camp.
Military service in 1st Armored Division:
He escaped from the Miranda de Ebro camp and made it to Great Britain where he joined the 1st Armoured Division. He went through the campaign from Normandy to Wilhelmshaven. He remained in Germany with the Division until 1947. Here he met and married his wife, Marianne.
After War:
Aleksander Borsuk emigrated to Canada in 1949 with his wife and settled in Hamilton. When he retired in 1983, they moved to Vancouver.
