Before World War II, he pursued a law degree at Wilno University. In 1940, he made his way to England through Coetquidan, France, to join the Polish Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Military service in 1<sup>st<\/sup> Armored Division:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his active service, he was a member of the 1st Armoured Division under General Maczek, participating in the liberation of northern France, Belgium, and Holland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After War:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1945, he completed his studies at the Polish Faculty of Law at Oxford. In 1947, he married Teresa Romer, and in 1950, they emigrated to Canada, where they raised their five children: Jolanta (1948), Anna (1950), Mariella (1953), Marek (1956), and Stefan (1960). During his time in Montreal, Mietek worked in shipping companies and actively supported Polish organizations. In 1974, he married his second wife, Krystyna. He was an accomplished skier, sailor, and gardener, relishing life and the company of friends at gatherings and parties.
